Overview

The Tonkin pit viper is native to the mountainous Tonkin region of northern Vietnam and adjoining parts of southern China. It belongs to the widespread Asian bamboo pit viper group found throughout mainland Southeast Asia.

It is an arboreal, nocturnal predator relying on green cryptic coloration and heat-sensing pits to ambush prey.
