Overview

The Blue Krait, also called the Malayan Krait, is a member of the krait genus known for possessing some of the most potent neurotoxic venom among Southeast Asian snakes. Bites are uncommon during the day, when the snake is sluggish, but the species becomes far more active and defensive at night.

It is widely distributed across mainland and insular Southeast Asia, often in close proximity to human settlements, which raises the risk of accidental encounters after dark.

Found in lowland forests, rice paddies, agricultural land, and areas near human habitation across Southeast Asia, often close to water sources.
