Physical Description
Features a stout body with smooth scales, grey-brown to reddish-brown coloration with darker blotches and spots forming an irregular pattern along the back. The head is distinct from the neck with characteristic heat-sensing pits along the labial scales and a vertical or rounded pupil within a silvery or light-toned eye.
Size & Dimensions
This specimen appears to be a sub-adult or adult. Typical adults reach lengths of 75 to 100 cm (2.5 to 3.3 feet), with a maximum recorded length around 110 cm.
Habitat
Inhabits a range of arid and semi-arid environments including rocky outcrops, scrublands, open forests, and tropical woodlands. Prefers microhabitats such as rock crevices, caves, and exfoliating bark.
Diet & Feeding
Primarily carnivorous, feeding on small mammals, birds, and lizards. Utilizes an active foraging and ambush strategy, subduing prey through constriction before ingestion.
Reproduction
Oviparous species. Females lay clutches typically ranging from 5 to 19 eggs, wrapping around the clutch to incubate and protect them until hatching.
